a researcher in hydraulic modelling (m/f)

About the Job

The Centre de Recherche Public - Gabriel Lippmann, a fast-growing public establishment for applied scientific research and technology transfer, has an opening on a fixed-term contract basis for its department ‘Environment and Agro-biotechnologies’ (EVA) for:

a researcher in hydraulic modelling (m/f)
Ref ( EVA-200112-FLOODBED)

Duties and responsibilities:

The candidate (m/f) will participate in two research projects. The FLOODMOIST project deals with the development of enhanced data assimilation schemes (Ensemble Kalman Filter, Particle Filter) for integrating hydrology-related data obtained through microwave remote sensing observations and in-situ measurements into a coupled hydrologic-hydraulic model. The results of this research study are expected to lead to a better understanding of the merit of jointly assimilating soil moisture and flood extent information for reducing the predictive uncertainty of flood forecasting systems.

The BEDLOAD project investigates the potential for seismological measurements to monitor and model bedload transport (sediments, gravel, etc.) during flood events in fluvial systems. Using digital data processing and time-frequency analysis techniques, the objective is to investigate how these signals scale with the quantity of the transported material, as well as its composition.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a MSc degree (or equivalent) in geosciences or environmental engineering and should have expertise in the application and development of hydraulic models.

Excellent programming skills are essential and experience with data assimilation techniques would be considered as an asset.

The candidate must be fluent in English (scientific exchanges), French (administrative language) will be considered as a real advantage.

Contact:

Candidates who are interested in that position should send their application (with the above reference) including CV, motivation letter, names of two or three referees, a list of research projects and publications, diploma and possible work certificates, either by e-mail to recrutement@lippmann.lu (format .doc or .pdf) or by mail to:
